Why use a professional landscaper?

Your garden is an extension of your home, and can make a big difference to the quality of your life. Choosing the right landscaper will mean your hard landscaping materials will be installed correctly and should mean your investment will last for many years to come.

Professional landscapers should have:

an understanding of the different soil types and how to create effective drainage in your garden
experience of installing a wide range of materials. They should know how to install your chosen materials properly and be able to advise if any aren’t suitable for your garden
the right tools for the job, which could save hours of labour and mean you’ll get a high quality finish

Many landscapers will also have experience of working with garden designers and are used to turning garden plans into reality.

What to look for in a professional landscaper?

It’s always a good idea to ask for recommendations, especially if you can see the quality of work on a project. What are your particular requirements, for example a retaining wall, block paved driveway, water feature or decking? Look for a landscaper with experience of installing the materials you are choosing.

If you’re looking for someone to take care of your planting as well as your hard landscaping, find out about their experience and qualifications in this area. Some companies will be able to both; others may be able to recommend a soft landscaper they work with.

plan ahead as good landscapers tend to be busy
choose between at least 3 written quotes if possible
ask for details of jobs the landscaper has previously carried out and speak to or visit these people
agree on a detailed written description for the work they will carry out and when, including an idea of your budget
make sure you are agreed on the quantity of materials you need before you order

Remember, cheaper is not always better!
