The vision
Created for the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival, this garden was designed by Mike Long to demonstrate responsible, resourceful and environmentally conscious landscaping. The brief was to craft a stylish, contemporary outdoor space that balanced beauty with sustainability- reusing materials where possible and blending modern finishes with reclaimed elements.
To bring the concept to life, Kebur’s landscape division collaborated with 12 other APL member organisations, working together to deliver a show garden that would both inspire visitors and champion thoughtful design.

The materials

Black Brazilian Slate Paving
Chosen for the main surfaces, Black Brazilian slate offered:
A sleek, contemporary finish perfect for modern show gardens
Rich, deep tones that contrast beautifully with greenery
Natural slip resistance and durability for high-footfall environments
Blue Asian Limestone Setts
The cool blue-grey tones of Blue Asian Limestone Setts compliment the slate perfectly. The rich, deep tones of these two natural stones contrast beautifully with the greenery.
Design Features
Seating zones: The garden incorporated several seating points, creating opportunities for relaxation.
Tranquil water features: Carefully placed water elements brought sound, movement and serenity to the space.
Lush, layered planting: The rich greenery softened the architectural hardscape and introduced different textures into the garden.
Responsible, resourceful construction: Reclaimed materials were blended seamlessly with new products, reducing waste and demonstrating how modern gardens can be environmentally considerate.

The result
The completed garden stood out as a contemporary masterpiece- immersive, sustainable and beautifully detailed. Its thoughtful combination of modern paving, atmospheric water features and vibrant planting resonated strongly with both judges and visitors.
The garden received Silver Gilt, won Best in Lifestyle Garden, and proudly claimed the People’s Choice Award, celebrating the collaborative achievement of Kebur’s landscape division, the wider APL team and designer Mike Long.
