Our sustainability framework

At Kebur we take our responsibility to people and the planet seriously

Our aim is to help our customers create their dream gardens. Protecting our environment and reducing the impact of climate change can only serve towards this aim and improve long-lasting enjoyment of outdoor spaces.

As a supplier, a customer, an employer, and a part of our local community, we believe in acting with integrity and fairness towards others in all we do.

This plan sets out our recent achievements and our objectives that will help us meet our goal of Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050

Fiercely protecting our natural resources is not only our moral responsibility, it is vital for the future of our business and our quality of life.

Improve our environmental sustainability

We’re committed to minimising any harmful effects of our operations on the environment through energy, transport, waste and water use. We’re developing our plans for net zero and look to support and promote biodiversity where we can.

Supporting our community

As a long-established family-run business, we at Kebur believe in supporting and connecting with our local community. Over the years we’ve donated tens of thousands of pounds worth of materials to schools, clubs and charities, helping to bring the positive power of gardens and nature to their communities.

Treat all our people fairly

This includes everyone involved in supplying our products, none more so than our suppliers of natural stone paving. We expect suppliers to ensure working terms and conditions meet or exceed the standards in the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code.

Our environmental policies

We continuously review the actions we are taking to make our business as sustainable and responsible as it can be, and actively looking for opportunities to do more.

Climate

Our objective is to stock more sustainable products, understand our carbon emissions and have a plan for achieving net zero.

This means we:
–  choose suppliers that have more sustainable materials and production processes
–  publish carbon footprint and other environmental data for our products
–  bring you a wide and growing range of products with recycled content
–  only offer peat-free compost in our store
–  use certified carbon zero printers for our printed materials

Transport

We continually review our transport and our vehicle fleet to minimise our emissions and fuel consumption.

This means we:
–  run only the most fuel-efficient Euro 6 HGVs
–  run only lower emission ULEZ compliant vehicles
–  offset the carbon emissions for our forklift fuel whilst we prepare to switch to electric
–  run a cycle to work programme which is used by over 20% of our team

Biodiversity

We support projects that promote nature and bio-diversity.

This means we give £3000 worth of garden materials to local projects every year, to enhance biodiversity and help benefit and educate communities

What we are working on:
–  Reviewing our supply chain to reduce carbon emissions further
–  Diverting more commercial waste from landfill through improved recycling
–  Installing electric vehicle charging points

Waste

We minimise the impact of the waste we produce by:
–  Choosing products and packaging that you can recycle
–  Avoiding excess packaging, especially plastic, and re-using our own packaging where possible
–  Separating and responsibly disposing of our own waste, aiming for zero waste to landfill

This means we:
–  divert tonnes of unsellable products from landfill every year by donating them to our community
–  re-use pallets and separate all our waste for recycling
–  convert our timber waste to to biomass for heat energy

Energy

We reduce energy use and promote renewables.

This means we:
–  use 100% renewable energy at all our sites
–  generate our own solar energy from panels at our Landscape Centre
