Kebur landscaping training
At Kebur Garden Materials, we’re passionate about helping landscape professionals grow and thrive. That’s why we’ve created an exciting programme of practical, great-value training designed to sharpen your skills across a wide range of landscaping techniques.
Led by industry experts and delivered in small, focused groups, each course gives you the chance to build real confidence – whether you’re a contractor, apprentice, or designer. Plus, you’ll receive a certificate on completion to mark your achievement.
All courses take place at our easily accessible Farnborough training centre and are exclusively available to Kebur Trade Pro account holders. Our training facility is a two-minute walk from our Landscape Centre with parking and easy access to major roads and rail routes.

Courses
Introduction to bricklaying
Duration: 2 days
Fees: £360 (inc VAT)

Course objectives:
A practical introduction to bricklaying which will include:
- Rolling mortar on spot board
- Correct use of hand tools and techniques
- Levelling and setting out for single skin brickwork
- Building a single skin brick wall
- Building a single skin brick corner
- Pointing and finishing of wall.
Learning outcomes:
- Be able to mix mortars correctly as per industry guidelines
- Be able to work safely and use the appropriate tools
- Be able to set out independently single brick wall structures
- Be able to confidently point and finish your tasks.
- Be able to return to site and work independently on simple brick laying tasks.

Intermediate bricklaying
Duration: 3 days
Fees: £540 (inc VAT)

Course objectives:
A chance to gain more in-depth experience in specific bricklaying techniques including:
- Construction of a 215mm brick wall corner
- Different 215mm brick bonds
- Construction of brick piers
- Different pointing styles
- Preparation of a brick wall ready for render or cladding.
Learning outcomes:
- Be able to construct a variety of 215mm brick bonds and structures.
- Be able to construct brick piers in line with industry standards.
- Gain knowledge and practical ability of different pointing styles, when and why to use them.
- Gain knowledge and practical ability to have a wall ready for render or cladding.
- Be able to return to site and work independently or supervise a labourer on more complex brick laying tasks.

Introduction to laying natural stone paving
Duration: 2 days
Fees: £360 (inc VAT)

Course objectives:
A practical introduction into recommended installation techniques including:
- Setting out
- Sub-bases
- Laying patterns
- Cutting paving
- Mortars, primers, adhesives and jointing
- Fall rates
- Particular considerations for riven natural stone paving
Learning outcomes:
- Be able to set out simple paving scheme.
- Be able to install sub-bases to correct falls.
- Be able to lay stone paving correctly and safely.
- Be able to mark and cut stone paving correctly and safely to industry standards.
- Be able to apply jointing methods safely and correctly to industry standards and manufacturers guidelines.
- Be able to work independently on simple paving tasks.

Practical landscaping for designers
Duration: 2 days
Fees: £360 (inc VAT)

Course objectives:
A practical opportunity to learn and have a go at basic techniques in brickwork, laying paving, block paving, levelling and setting out. This is hands-on and you will get dirty!
Learning outcomes:
- To gain an overview of brickwork and paving construction methods.
- To be able to converse confidently and with understanding with your landscape contractor.
- To gain a better understanding of what is involved with built constructions placed in landscape drawings.

Meet the trainer

Steve Smith
Steve has many years of experience running his own landscape design and build company, Shore Landscapes, working on both commercial and domestic projects. With multiple awards for both construction and design, Steve is now sharing his extensive experience with other contractors, designers and apprentices to help them broaden their knowledge.

- Worldskills trainer and mentor
- Worldskills competition judge
- Qualified instructor for portable power tools
- Lantra approved apprenticeship end point assessor
Steve has also been appointed Clerk of Works at Hampton Court.
